DR. GRUNWALD WILL MEET WITH YOU TO DISCUSS YOUR GOALS

Genetics and life changes such as multiple pregnancies or a substantial shift in weight can cause loose skin and stubborn fat deposits to develop in the abdomen. When this occurs, many men and women turn to tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, to achieve a more toned-looking abdomen. The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women in relatively good shape who are unhappy with the appearance of their abdomen due to diet resistant fat deposits and lax, loose skin in the lower abdomen. A tummy tuck should not be considered a treatment for obesity and is not recommended for individuals planning to lose considerable amounts of weight in the near future.

During both tummy tuck and mini-tummy tuck procedures, Dr. Grunwald will remove excess skin and fat from your abdominal wall and tighten your contour through an incision low on your abdomen. A tummy tuck has an incision that runs hipbone to hipbone, while a mini tummy tuck has an incision more like one experienced during a cesarean section. Tummy tuck surgery is sometimes combined with liposuction or other procedures to provide a more complete result. If your goal is to reduce your midsection, you many not know whether to choose liposuction or a tummy tuck. A liposuction procedure will decrease the thickness of any rolls you can pinch on your abdomen but will not remove excess skin. A tummy tuck can remove lax skin, and stretch marks, on your lower abdomen and tighten your abdominal wall. Before choosing whether to undergo tummy tuck surgery, you will have a consultation with Dr. Grunwald. She will discuss your goals, explain the tummy tuck procedure, and assess your abdomen for hernias, previous scars, excess skin or fat, and the integrity of your abdominal wall muscles. The tummy tuck procedure takes between two to three hours depending on your size and other factors. Board certified anesthesiologist with active hospital privileges will administer anesthesia, and you will be required to spend one night in the recovery care center. Patients are allowed to return home the morning after their tummy tuck surgery. Women considering future pregnancies should postpone tummy tuck surgery until after childbearing.
